Undergraduate Advising
Video Highlights
For general advising information for the school of information see http://www.engineering.columbia.edu/students/advisingcenter.php
Each student enrolled in the Department of Biomedical Engineering will be assigned an academic adviser. All faculty members in the Department have a good knowledge of undergraduate curriculum in all tracks and will be able to provide appropriate advising to students regardless of their track.
For more specific questions in their academic track, students will be assisted by their adviser, who will point them to an appropriate faculty member in the Department for providing in-depth answers to their questions. In addition, the vice chair of the Department, Professor Andrew F. Laine (), and the chair of undergraduate committee, Professor Barclay Morrison (), are available to answer specific questions that a student may have.
Students are required to meet with their adviser before each term to discuss their course schedule, which is signed by both the student and their Biomedical Engineering advisor. Any deviation from the agreed schedule requires approval by your adviser. Furthermore, any unauthorized changes may lead to a delay in your graduation. The Degree Audit Report (DAR) is considered an advising tool only and should not be used as the final indicator of meeting graduation requirements. The only way to ensure a timely graduation is meeting with your adviser.
Due to the multi-track nature of the undergraduate curriculum, it is critical that students meet with their advisors to avoid confusion and ensure all requirements are met for a timely graduation. Students should meet with their advisers to complete a term registration form during the advising week preceding the registration period each semester. (For more information see here)
