Ethan Frome

Nanyang Technological University (Singapore)

Assistant/Associate Professor in Bioengineering

The biomedical- and life science-related industries in Singapore have seen remarkable growth in recent years.  With the demand for trained engineers and researchers with knowledge interfacing engineering and life sciences, a new bioengineering program has been initiated at the Nanyang Technological University (NTU).  Together with its predecessor Nanyang University, NTU has offered higher education for more than 50 years. NTU boasts of a campus of 200 hectares, an academic staff strength of 1,300 and an enrolment of 19,000 undergraduate and 8,000 graduate students.  Its research and infrastructure is very well-funded by the government and industries.  As the main science and technology university in Singapore, NTU makes significant contributions to the nation's renewed drive for research.

The Division of Bioengineering of the School of Chemical and Biomedical Engineering at NTU invites applications for tenure-track faculty appointments at the Assistant and Associate Professor level, in  all general areas of bioengineering including but not restricted to: bioimaging, biomedical devices, tissue engineering, biomaterials, systems biology, computational biology, and  bio-nanotechnology.  Candidates should have a Ph.D. in relevant disciplines, preferably with postdoctoral experience and strong record in publication.  The newly formed School attracts top undergraduate students in Singapore and regional countries.  The well-funded School is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities for teaching and research, and it is now housed in two new buildings totaling 30,000 square meters.  The number of undergraduate students of the Bioengineering Division is approximately 400.  The Division is rapidly building up its graduate program with an aim to have 100 graduate students during steady state operation.  It is envisaged to have a core faculty size of about 25 and several joint faculty appointments with other divisions/schools within NTU.  Successful applicants can look forward to a research-stimulating environment and interaction with some of the best undergraduate and graduate students from the region.
